Why Should I Train With Power?

The Power Advantage: Most training systems only allow you to measure your body’s response to the work. The actual amount of work you perform remains a mystery – or at best an estimate. Why is this a problem? Doing too much work means injury and overtraining risk. Too little means you’re not getting the maximum benefits you want. When power is measured your training becomes that much more effective.

Having a constant measure of power helps you  Establish your baseline fitness.

Elevate Cycles offers you the option of training with power without having to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on expensive equipment. Choosing one of the Elevate Cycles Power Packages helps you get the most out of your off-season training without breaking the bank.

 

Why Should I do 'Training Zone Testing'? 

If you're like many athletes, you've heard of (and maybe even used) this equation to estimate your max heart rate for determining your training zones:

220 - your age = HRmax  What this formula proposes is that eveone of the same age should have the same maximum heart rate. Looking at the wide range of health and fitness of all 25 year olds, or all 45 year olds, this logically can not be true. Everyone's heart will have a different capacity, efficiency and, therefore, different maximum heart rates. The size of your heart and strength of the muscles surrounding your heart will have a great impact on what your heart is capable of, and this will be different for everyone.


So, what good is training based on a formula that doesn't work?  Not much!

Here at Elevate Cycles, training programs begin with a real world 'Training Zone Test' to determine each athlete's personal training zones.  Elevate Cycles coaches are certified instructors, professionally qualified to determine your training zones, whether working with power or heart rate. Athletes are periodically reassessed as fitness improves.

Even the best group training sessions don't take you into account as an individual. Each athlete is different, with unique goals and unique strengths and weaknesses. One-on-One programs are built around you and only you. One of our CycleOps Power Certified Coaches will discuss your experience and goals and use that information combined with 'Training Zone Testing' to create a program optimized to take you and your cycling to the next level!
